Williams stopped in her tracks, turned to look at me with a wry grin as if to say, "Did you just say what I think you said? As we grew older and moved away from each other, we always kept in touch, like we lived next door. But in front of a crowd, that fluffy yellow orb felt like a bocce ball in my hand when I went to toss it. By the latter half of the set, Williams stayed on the sidelines as I finished out the match with one of my teammates, who was incredibly skilled. Sadly, I hold a head-to-head in that matchup. UT was always the life of the party but more importantly he made sure that whoever he was with felt welcomed, included, comfortable and cared for.
